Focus Only on What You Want

Welcome to the new issue of Law of Attraction Key!

How many times have you heard me say “Focus on what you DO want not on what you DON’T want”? A million times right? RIGHT! That’s how important it is. 🙂

Do you still struggle with it? We all do…that’s why I asked Christy Whitman to join us for this issue of the Law of Attraction Key. She is going to help you get really clear on the exact 3 questions you can use time and time again to get yourself back on track and focused on what you desire.

I love how she wrote this, because she uses a powerful example from her own life to lead you through the steps. Once you have read this issue, please apply it right away – and make sure you leave me a comment at lawofattractionkey.com to let me know your thoughts – I can’t wait to hear what you have to say!

I’m excited for you – you are extraordinary – enjoy this issue!

Focus Only on What You Want

by Christy Whitman

This is a lesson that I have learned even in the hardest point in my life. . .

The day my son Maxim turned two months old we took him for his regular checkup, and he was rushed to the emergency room because the doctor felt he looked blue. The team of ER doctors and nurses swarmed around him, placing an oxygen mask on his little tiny face, and attaching tubes to small veins. My husband and I had no idea what was happening with our little baby.

We were brought into a small room with one of the cardiologists, and she informed us that he had an issue with his heart. His main arteries were not connected correctly, and he was not able to breathe. To make matters worse, babies born with this condition usually had corrective surgery a week after their birth, most within days. Because Maxim was two months old they considered this a high-risk surgery, and they needed to do a procedure on him immediately.

This was the scariest situation I have ever experienced in my life. And one thing that I know to be true is that in order to create the outcome that you want in any area of your life, you must focus on what you want, and not on what you don’t want. I have seen great success in my business because I always declare what I want, and then I focus only on that vision coming into manifestation. This situation was no different.

My husband and I started talking about the vision that we had, and we would focus on nothing but that vision. My son is now a year old. He is doing great, and he is completely healthy and very strong.

In all areas of my life I focus on three simple questions, and these questions get me the success, fulfillment and ultimately the outcome I want.

1.    What do you want?

Be very clear about the vision that you have in all areas of your life: body, finances, career, family, relationships, spirituality. Clarity is key in creating what you want. Be very specific in what you desire.

If you would like your bank account to have more money, how much is more money?

I asked my husband one day if he could create anything, what would it be? He was being silly looking outside into our new backyard and he said, “A pool full of money.” I started to think, if I was going to get him a pool of money, where would I even start? How big should the pool be? A baby pool, or an Olympic-sized pool? And what type of money? Should it be one hundred dollar bills or pennies? If I were trying to fulfill his wish like the Universe is always trying to fulfill ours, I wouldn’t know where to start, because he wasn’t specific enough about what he wanted.

With Maxim’s situation, we were very clear that we wanted our son to be healthy and strong. We wanted our family all back together again. I wanted both of my sons to be in the same room playing with one another. We wanted to be able to travel and explore as a family, now and as the boys grow older. We wanted joy in our house. We wanted happiness. We wanted everyone in total well-being.

So declare what you want and be very specific.

2.    Why do you want it?

What are all the reasons that you want these things?

If you decided that you wanted to make an additional $40,000 a year (getting very specific on the goal), why then do you want that additional $40,000? What will it do for you? Will you be able to travel more? Will you be able to shop for the clothes that you want to wear? Maybe the extra money will help you work with a coach to help you get to a more fulfilling place in all areas of your life.

With Maxim, we wanted what we wanted because having our family all together is fun, and there is a lot of love. We wanted to be able to have all of our attention on our two boys in the same place at the same time. We wanted our boys to be able to enjoy their lives. Because it feels better to have everyone healthy.  Why do you want what you want?

3.    How will you feel when you achieve it?

This is the most important part. In order for the Universe to bring to you what you want; you need to be in vibrational alignment with it. If you want to be abundant, you first have to feel abundant. If you want to have greater success, you first have to feel success. We want what we want because somehow the receiving of it will make us feel a certain way.

With Maxim, we wanted to feel joy. We wanted to feel secure. We wanted to feel safe.

What is it that you want to feel in your life?

Once you identify what you want, why you want it, and how you will feel when you achieve it, you then want to connect with the feeling of having it.

Every day when Maxim was in the hospital I would connect with feeling secure, knowing that he is already healthy, strong and on his way home. We would feel the joy of what it will feel like when we bring him home from the hospital knowing that he is now in perfect health.

In my business I focus on the feeling of success and abundance. There is no other feeling  I hold, and that is why my business, which I started from the dining room table in my husband’s condo almost five years ago, is now projected to generate over a million dollars in sales this year.

It works for me. It works for my clients. And it will work for you.

Quick Tip Look Who’s Talking…
If you are struggling with answering question 2 which is “Why do you want it?” then try this – ask yourself these questions:“If I attract [FILL IN WITH YOUR DESIRE] how will it benefit me?How will it benefit my friends and family?

How will it benefit my community?

How will it benefit strangers?

How will it benefit the world?

Your happiness really is something that helps the whole world – when you raise your vibration, you raise the vibration of the world and the effects of that are transformational.

Remember, your happiness and fulfillment is not just a gift you give yourself, it is a gift you give the entire world!

“Kristen I must say that, THAT was a great tip!Laugh out loud! I’ve never replied to an email even though I read them all.I’m sitting here challenged by my thoughts as I was reading this email.

I was trying to figure out how NOT to let my mind continue to return to the same thought that has me in a pinch.

Of course it’s a money issue. And then I read your email, it was right on target, change my focus (which by the way, I was attempting to do and do and do) and laugh out loud.

The laugh out loud was perfect because it’s something I do often!

Thanks Kristen! That was priceless…

Gratefully yours,

— Rosa”

It would seem to me that the feeling of accomplishment and the feeling of having it is almost the same.

sounds good until I got to how do I want it…I have been trying to get a job for over 3 years with no outside experience (stay at home mom) I don’t know what kind of job I would love or be really good at. I have used affirmations, meditation, imagining what it would be or be like. I have tried quantum jumping but still no luck…I have tried to stay positive to raise vibrations & believe but still nothing. without a good job I can’t move….Got any other ideas? I know what I want,,,I know how I would feel if it happened…If I had the money I would go help clean up after the Texas tornadoes ( I did that when Joplin Mo got hit last May). I would do a lot to give back I love doing for others

      Hi Janice!

Here is the answer I gave to Linda (who posted in response to your post) and I think it will help you too —

There will always be proof of what is wrong AND proof of what is going great — it is up to you which you will focus on in any given moment — so, right now, start looking for positive proof. Once you do you will start to raise your vibration and a shift will start within you!

Have fun with this and you will start to step into your power!

I so want to follow these directions to a T. It’s just hard to do when you’re mired in judgments, bankruptcy, et al. How in the world does one focus on what one WANTS when these things are in the way. So I will make an extra effort to keep in mind the things I want to happen when these things are no longer in the way … how free I will feel, how unencumbered I will feel, how I will be able to finally resume going after the dream, and not stop until it’s achieved.

Meanwhile … I go through steps to come out of a hole, and I have to train myself to think I’m not IN that hole … how to go about that …

  5. Bev says:

Thanks for an inspiring article. My main problem is that I find it hard to “want” something. All my life I have just been content with whatever was handed me. My life is fairly happy and I spend lots of time volunteering and helping friends and family. But you have me thinking! Maybe I should want more for myself, as now realize that could in turn help others. You do have my mind spinning.

    • Kristen says:

      Hi Bev!

I can’t wait to hear what you discover — also, try this, instead of focusing on what you ‘want’ — instead ask yourself “what would make this even better?”

      You are extraordinary!

  6. James Engler says:

Excellently put Kristen. I have been working on something the same for a while, but alcoholism prevented me from implementing it; Dr. Robert Anthony calls it the trust factor, at this point I call it the faith miracle. You simply declare what you want, give it all to Christ, pursue it with with maximum effort, one moment, one minute, one day at a time, and in my case absolute sobriety, and simply allow God to take care of the outcome. I love this three question approach to this, and intend on applying it to all parts of my life. Best wishes to you Kristen!

  7. Linda says:

I’d like to respond to Janice, April 5, 2012 – 10;23 am. Almost exactly my predicament. I would love to hire a life coach, therefore, I need to create the money. This information of the law of attraction, affirmations, meditation, etc. is wonderful to know. Although, after 3 years of f learning all this, I am giving up hope. Is that my problem?

    • Kristen says:

      Hi Linda!

The answer to your question lies in the question itself — when you ask “Is this my problem?” you are focused on what is wrong — there will always be proof of what is wrong AND proof of what is going great — it is up to you which you will focus on in any given moment — so, right now, start looking for positive proof. Once you do you will start to raise your vibration and a shift will start within you!

  8. Ben says:

Thanks for bringing me back to the basics. I find that my main problem is centered around Step 1: “What do you want?”. It is not that I do not know what I want but finding that REAL what I want amongst several equally desired wants.

    • Kristen says:

      Hey Ben!

When it comes to what you REALLY want — try asking yourself how you want to FEEL — our emotions always win, so in any situation what you are REALLY after is an emotion or feeling. For example — you might think that you want financial freedom, but what you really want is the feelings of abundance, prosperity and freedom to do as you choose.

      Give it a try!
