How do you eat an elephant?

How do you eat an elephant?

ONE BITE AT A TIME!

I applaud you all for being so ambitious and having large and wonderful visions of your ideal life…

BUT

To be honest…

You are freaking yourselves out…

Yes, you must figure out your ideal life, see it, feel it, focus on it…

But then ask yourself these questions…

  1. ‘What is the first step?’
  2. ‘What 1 step can I take RIGHT NOW to move me toward my ideal life?’

I’ve written about this before and many of you really got it and then I did something crazy…

I told you to approach people who are where you want to be and ask them how you can help them…

I opened a floodgate…

All I can say is HOLD ON!

Let’s back up a second…

I guarantee you there are several people who are where you ULTIMATELY want to be…

But all I want you to do is approach 3-5 people who are 1 or 2 steps further toward what you want than you are…

If you want to be a real estate mogul and you’ve never done a deal, I applaud you for having the vision of your real estate empire…

But unless you possess a great amount of confidence I wouldn’t suggest trying to approach Donald Trump…YET!

2 things I said in that last sentence are VERY important…

  1. Confidence: We have to advance toward our goals in steps NOT because it’s impossible to achieve these things over night, but because normally we don’t have the confidence and certainty and faith that they can, so we build confidence and certainty and faith by taking BITE SIZE steps toward our goals. The good news about this is that this may seem like the slower route, but I promise you that it is the much faster journey!
  2. YET: It’s important to realize that you aren’t (most likely) going to approach Trump yet…but if you go forward one step at a time, eventually even Trump will be another bite size step.

So my friends…

Know what the big picture is, but then please eat the elephant 1 bite at a time!

Once you reach a mini goal, CELEBRATE IT and then ask yourself what the next step is…

Leave me a comment and let me know your next step…

Go Big!

Kristen

I’ve been in real estate for 34 years, and keep reaching the same plateau. Your blog reminded me, if I needed any reminder, that I can only take one step at a time. One of my goals is to lease up my beautiful office building. I’ve been trying and trying and trying, seemingly to no avail. Yes, the commercial, and particularly the office, market is in a severe slump, but there are people out there who need an executive suite: It’s less expensive than leasing even cheap office space and then paying for all the overhead. Yesterday, my financial partner and I met with a young agent to tak about selling the building, at an even further loss than we had already suffered. In the conversation, she made some suggestions that I had previously rejected because of the cost of joining the economic development organization to which she referred. She suggested I did not have to join the organization and, in fact, she knew someone there who could help me. That renewed my confidence in being able to reach those needing my suites (help?).

Yes, I did and often do freak out, but thanks for keeping me centered.

    Hi Kristen,

I think you asked a difficult question but I love the idea that Donald Trump could be a bite sized step. Thanks.

    Hey Leila!

LOL…I love your reply here! Yes, anyone is a bite sized step at some point…we are all people…no one is better or worse and once our beliefs support that we can approach anyone!

    Hey Kristen,

This is a great post. One thing I want to share, if I haven\’t already, is to everyone that\’s working on something, one step at a time is excellent advice. Mentors are key though. And also, stay pumped with positive information.

I find this hard Kirsten as I have in the past met and talked with authors but somehow I get no further along the line. Now it is more difficult for me to meet authors somehow and certainly to talk to them. I will see if I can find any on the Internet but in my experience they are shy of talking. I do have one friend who has self published though when I come to think of it and I know his publisher but it’s the next step.

Before you sit down to eat your elephant, make sure you’re hungry. If you aren’t hungry enough, then you will probably stop after the first tough bite.
