If you don’t know what you want, The Law of Attraction doesn’t work

If you had asked me what I wanted a few years ago, I would have fumbled around for an answer and come up with that I wanted more money and more success and to feel excited about my life. But if you had asked me to get specific, I would have been flustered.

Why?

For me, it was a couple of things…

  1. I knew there was MUCH MORE for me, but I couldn’t quite put a finger on what it was.
  2. I was terrified to try to define it, because I didn’t want to attract the wrong thing.

I was never one of those people that thought the Law of Attraction doesn’t work. In fact, I always had complete faith that it works and that is what froze me at times, because I didn’t want to put the power of the law of attraction into manifesting something that I didn’t really want or worse, thought I wanted because I was feeling fearful and desperate.

And because I didn’t get specific, I attracted a whole bunch of things that fit my general requests, but they were never quite right.

For example…in 2 weeks time, I went from making less than $1000/month (in New York City…YIKES) to making OVER $5000/month. BUT…once the excitement wore off, I realized I was making money doing something that I didn’t want to do.

I adjusted, got specific and started attracting what I DID want and this taught me that you can always adjust your focus and change what you are attracting.

The moral of the story is that it is better to get specific and use the power of the Law of Attraction to attract what you are focusing on and then, if you need to, redefine your focus as you discover more of what you want…than it is to float around generally attracting things that are ‘kind of’ what you want.

Here’s the key…

It doesn’t matter why you are having trouble getting specific…

What matters is that you have a tool to help you GET SPECIFIC!

Here’s an exercise to do just that:

Grab 2 pieces of paper and a timer.

Put the timer on for 5 minutes.

In single sentences, write down everything that YOU DO NOT WANT.

Write it all down…all the things that drive you crazy about your life…everything you DON’T want to define you…EVERYTHING…

DO IT NOW…and then come back.

Welcome back…

OK…now look at the list of awfulness and take each sentence and on another piece of paper write down the opposite.

For instance, if you wrote, “I don’t want to be poor” then you would write on the other piece of paper “I want to be rich”.

NOW this is the Law of Attraction Key we talked about last time…YOU MUST write down specifics of what being rich is to you.

Don’t skip this part of the exercise. I know it might seem like a lot…but ask yourself if you’re ready to start using the Law of Attraction to work for you…and if the answer is ‘Yes’ then take the time to do this and get specific…trust me…it’s worth it.

Go Big!

Kristen

    Hi Kristen,
God I never thought getting specific on what I DO want can be challenging. It has become like a whole session bewtween myself and I and even
evoked emotions… I guess I really got into it. It felt like a worthy experience , I hope it will bear nice fruits.
    Thanks for the post.

Hi Kristen, I couldn’t follow this, how do you link 5 minutes to the excercise given. Is it to complete the whole excercise within 5 minutes? On the other hand , once opposites are written, what next? I would really appreciate and look forward to your response , Thank you, Vajira

Hi Kristen, I couldn’t follow this. What is the reason for setting the timer for 5 minutes? Once opposites are written, what’s next? I really appreciate and look forward your response. Thank you, Vajira

Thanks Kristen, I have to say, I feel I am much like you in regards to this. I do believe in the LOA… although maybe not 100% since I haven’t been super specific yet and STUCK with it. But I’m pretty convinced. However, that floating feeling is something I am very familiar with. I’m kind of afraid to commit since I am not totally clear on what is the best for me. Gah! So frustrating. But I will do your exercise because I do see how that might help.

I’m assuming that the reason for the 5 minute limit is to just get out what first comes to mind… rather than not having any structure to the exercise and thus, once again, find yourself floating in indecisiveness. Something like that?

    Thanks again!

Thanx Kristen, its good to know that someone went through this, its always been hard for me to be specific, but am getting better daily. Thanx for your generosity with information. I’m gonna do that exercise and be very specific – I want to put the law of attraction into work in my life.

    Thanx sweet – stay blessed

    Hi Kristen,

I’ve written down some time ago what needs to be changed but at first you think it’s all going to be going smoothly but then it hits you i’m still nowhere and still i have to listen to people whom are completely brainwashed by that workplace.
So i know i’ll have to make some big changes and it’s coming piece by piece. I’m getting more and more the feeling i’m going the right direction and some people believe i’m going to do what they tell me to when they themselves havn’t gotten anywhere & are going no where.
I can be as specific as i can only to find out at the end of the letter i see i’ve written down more then i was thinking and then somewhere my minds stopped coming up with something only for later on another thoughts crosses me and i have to write it down.
To make theb LOA do everything it can do i’ll have to 1st drop whatever that is not serving me anything but lose. And there is something telling me this person should be kept close and sometimes when thinking about that person i feel it as like i’m doing something with that person even to know she doesn’t live near by.

This is a really good lesson to learn. i have put it into action before. It has taken some time but the more i do it the better it seems to work. Thank you for your good ideas.

I am so tired of prescriptions that are not for the problems I am experiencing. I know EXACTLY what I want, but it’s JUST NOT HAPPENING. The Bank is not only foreclosing on my building but also suing me personally for any shortfall that might occur. That’s not the Law of Attraction not working, it’s just plain disgusting.

I’m ready for a different reality. Why isn’t the Bank?

Awesome Kristen! You always offer great motivational advice and that’s why you are one of the people that I kept on my mailing list ^_~

I have seen improvements in my life since beginning LOA, although they are small now. I feel as though as time goes by they will grow and grow until I reach my goal. It’s like planting a seed, watering it and watching it grow. So, I believe in the LOA and believe that we can do anything we set our mind to, this is my message to you all. Have a great day ^_^

Again Thanks Kristen, Go Big! 🙂

    WOW!!! Amazing stuff!!
I did the 5 minutes thing & wrote hard & fast. After the timer signalled, I stopped writing, even though I had only just started with just 18 entries!!!

THEN I took a good, long, hard LOOK at what I had written ….!!
It was NOT what I thought was the problem, being “money” …..
It was ALL about my relationship with my husband who has been abusing me for 17 years!!!!!

I THOUGHT I wanted / needed MONEY to get free from this man.
NOW I see that what I REALLY WANT is to be FREE of him …. whatever it takes … money / ????? – just my personal freedom and to feel alive again!!!

I feel the need to spend a bit more time on this list, as I realise that it is very important. There are 10 more + things that I need to add to that list ….

THEN …. I can move on to the really GOOD stuff .., being …
    WHAT do I want??
The answer is already clear …. and you can bet … I SHALL make it happen!!!

Thank you for a wonderful piece of advice!!!

  16. TJ says:

Hey Kristen, great post. Getting specific is absolutely the thing to do to see the law of attraction in action. I do however have one question. I am a huge believer in positive thinking and the law of attraction. No matter what happens in my life, I see the good, it was the way I was raised. My wife however is not fully on board, yet. She has been getting better. But my question is, is it possible for a spouse to hold you back with their “thoughts” or limited beliefs? Now dont get me wrong she strongly supports me in my business etc. and wants me to succeed. I was just wondering if that was possible. Thanks for reading.

    • Kristen says:

      Hi TJ!

Remember, that you create your reality…therefore, other people can only hold you back with their thoughts and beliefs if you accept those thoughts and beliefs as limiting…

Sorry I don´t believe this, if it was true why nobody got anything till now, I challenge you to prove it works for me.

  18. Patty Walters says:

This is great Kristen. Really a place to focus on. What if the word ‘want’ was moved to another level? Like ‘have’ or ‘invest’ or ‘deposit’… wanting still feels a bit separated from what I am manifesting in my life. Just a thought! Keep on going BIG!!!

  19. Marilyn says:

Okay – I want to be a multi-millionaire quickly, easily, effortlessly and in a positive way. I want to make a huge difference in the world by combating hunger, homelessness and hopelessness. Those are two of my wants – thanks for reminding me to be specific!

  20. Joseph L. Huntoon says:

If you don’t know what you want you are likely to get anything. Worse! What does show up is a result of what you wanted, so you best start getting specific.

  21. Lori says:

I think joao may be missing something here and I wonder if they subscribed to your email –5 Steps to Making the Law of Attraction key work for you…
I found this quite clear ( just finished reading it) and now i see how negative thinking or habitual thinking that isnt quite what we want can also manifest things into our life.
    thanks Kristen!
