Embracing the Power of Not Knowing

Welcome back to the current issue of the Law of Attraction Key Newsletter!

Let me ask you this…

‘Do you feel a lot of pressure to KNOW what’s going on, or why certain things are happening in your life?” If you do, you aren’t alone, so many of you are struggling with this burden.

As life becomes more unpredictable, and the things you know seem to change, the pressure can build and create massive levels of stress.

I brought Dr. Michael R. Smith in for this week’s article to help relieve you of this stress and burden. In fact, he isn’t just going to help you get rid of the burden, he is going to give you a way to open yourself up to more possibility in the life you create while freeing yourself from so much strain and need to control. Really take what he says to heart; there is so much positive impact in his words.

Thank you to all of you who take a moment to comment after each article, it is amazing to be able to hear what you have to say and to get a chance to respond and answer and appreciate you. And if you haven’t left a comment yet, I welcome you to start today.

I also want to thank you for sharing the ‘Law of Attraction Key Online Magazine’ with your friends and family – I am grateful to be a part of your journey!

Embracing the Power of Not Knowing

By Dr. Michael R. Smith

What magical times in which we live!   The illusions of Western societies, which are primarily based on the illusion of separation, are crumbling.  This crumbling of what we thought we knew is causing both individual and collective crises.  Just as certain governments are falling, what we thought we knew about ourselves is also falling away, thankfully!   New realities and new futures are being created at this very moment.

If you feel that your own ideas of what you thought were ‘true’ are crumbling around you, then you are not alone.   Spirit is ‘sprinkling’ us with its Divine magic right now.  One of the ways this alchemical process happens is through the experience of being surprised, awed, and sometimes shocked into seeing the Truth of spiritual existence.  Sometimes it takes chaotic and unpleasant situations to propel us forward into dramatic spiritual transformation.  If this is happening to you now, please congratulate yourself for continuing to make the choice to breathe and remain in your human body.

Even though we may think we know what’s happening, the reality is that we don’t.  One of the wisest men I have ever known, a Lakota elder, is fond of saying, “I don’t know nothing.”   This is not an uncommon expression to hear among indigenous and Native American elders.  The act of vocalizing this expression in many tribal cultures (including some Buddhist systems) is a precursor to gaining spiritual wisdom.

Some of you might be thinking ‘why would I want to affirm that I don’t know anything?”.  To certain ways of thinking, this affirmation might seem counterintuitive. And yet consider the larger picture.  The truth is that very few of us, if any, are privy to the details of what’s happening in the BIG PICTURE.  Very few of us, if any, have any idea of what REALLY happening in the moment-to-moment changing energy of humanity and the World.   Do we have a rough idea of what might be happening, broad scale, in the spiritual age in which we live?  Many of us would say yes, we do.   We believe, as have cultures for hundreds of years, that we are all engaged in a magical time that presents opportunities to create new ways of thinking, being, and acting.  YOU have a huge role to play in this co-creation.

Is it scary for the human ego to not know what’s going on?  Absolutely!   The human ego’s job is to make things understandable for us, to make things smaller and ‘digestible’.  The ego is what gets us through the daily grind of paying bills, realizing which road to turn, and making otherwise mundane (but important) decisions to keep us safe and grounded.

And yet in all of my individual and group mentoring work with clients; there is one important message that rises to the top, and that is the following:  none of us have any idea of Who We Really Are.  If we did, it would be too much for the human ego to handle.  Thus, the ego serves an important function.  It protects us.   It is NOT our enemy, and any attempt to make it into such is only doing us harm.  Many of us would like to turn that mental chatter off, and rightfully so.  However, getting ‘rid’ of the human ego is not a worthwhile endeavor.   Not only is it impossible to do because the very fact that we are in a body necessitates it, but even if we did actually override it, we very well may become schizophrenic.

As much as you might want to get ‘rid’ of all that mental chatter, do you really want to wind up in a mental ward?   I hope your answer to that question would be in the negative!   Regardless, there are three very powerful words that you can speak at any given point in time, and they provide instant relief to the ever-inquisitive and sometimes demanding human ego.

Those three words are:  “I don’t know.”

Begin to EMBRACE the act of saying and vocalizing those words.  They provide instant relief.  And when you add another phrase on top of it “I don’t know, and I don’t need to know,” you become ever more empowered.

Paradoxically, by giving away the belief that you have some powerful knowledge, you become more powerful!   And so the great Mystery continues….the great ‘cosmic joke’ continues.   Not only is it OK not to know, it’s actually an empowering state of being.

So take all those unanswered questions that have been nagging you…..’why am I the way I am?” –  “what is my karma?”   “why must I suffer?” – and begin to make friends with the uncertainty.  ENGAGE the UNKNOWING, and you’ll find that your life, and the perceived burdens that you carry, become less and less of an issue.

Then you can move forward with the knowledge that we are all connected to something MUCH greater than we think we know.   And therein lies the MAGIC, the mystery, and the beauty.  May you embrace those three powerful words, vocalize them to yourself and to your friends.  You may be pleasantly surprised that what you thought was an uncomfortable state can actually be the greatest bliss imaginable!

Quick Tip Look Who’s Talking…
Sometimes, even when we do know what’s going on, knowing can still be limiting. The next time you feel like you know exactly what is going on with a certain situation, relationship or experience, try opening yourself up to the fullness of possibility by asking yourself this…

“Even though I’m sure I know EXACTLY what is going on here, what else might be going on?”

You can see that in simply asking yourself this question, you open yourself up to more possibility, solutions and opportunities!

    Dear Kristen,
Thanks,It helps me to know that it is normal for me to not know, although I rack my brains trying to understand and “know”. I resolve not to stress so much about trying to know.
I hope this comment makes sense to you.

    Regards,

Yes! It does make sense, and you can relax and allow yourself to ‘not know’ and you can even enjoy the excitement that comes with this! 🙂

The shortest distance between to points is a straight line only on paper. You are not qualified to judge and that is all you do 24/7. You think of yourself as being nonjudgmental but you judge everything from the weather, traffic, climate, bodily symptoms to wage rates in China and Malaysia. Appreciate not judge.

Makes sense. I need relief from wanting to know as a major shift has taken place in my life. I want to know if ill be safe and secure. I keep thinking about this. Reading your article is giving me a new perspective . But I so want to know if ill be ok financially and not wind up homeless that scares me. And I don’t like feeling this way. Stressed and worried about my future. I guess I just don’t know huh?

      I appreciate you!

A long while ago I realised I didn`t actually know as most of what I thought I knew was based on assumptions. I decided to go into the cloud of unknowing as it is sometimes called because I decided I wanted to know Truth. It had dawned on me that if I thought I already knew then I was not open to knowedge new, or otherwise if I thought I already knew the truth. Wow what a journey it has been because by letting go of the the fear of the unknown and the superior mindset that insists it knows the most amazing things began to occur. I `saw` how my interior processing worked, I saw patterns within patterns, I experienced trauma which had been locked into my body at the cellular level, I experienced my personal DNA at the cellular level and also the patterning from my ancestral lineage. My urge to discover overcame my fears and I dropped the barrier which reason puts in place to protect us from `raw` experience. But Oh how thankful I am now that I allowed my self to experience these unwanted feelings because by doing so I `saw` right through them and the how and why I had brought them into being. When the light of day was shone on them they shrunk and began to disolve.but there was still a lot of work to do as patterns of lifetimes embedded in us don`t just go away because we want them to, we can push them down again, but they will still be there driving our choices and therefore our behaviour. I see people and situations and the world as it is not the way I want it to be, or think it should be, like Katie Byron I no longer fight with reality so I no longer need to project and impose my own deluded thinking onto others, and I no longer accept theirs either. This creates a space for creation and truth to flourish.as I gradually come home to myself. <3

I’d adopted a similar saying a few years ago when my cancer came back: I don’t understand, but I guess I don’t have to. It helped me focus on what I could control and worry less about what I couldn’t. Thanks so much for the reminder that we’re part of the universe, but we don’t have to run it.

Hi Kristen, this is yet another of the terrific pieces of information you provide for us, and worthy of a lot of thought. For instance, a good deal of the stress many of us suffer from can be traced to the old issue of “not knowing” what we THINK we need to know. So, as Dr. Smith says, what if we release the need to “know it all” (which is impossible anyway) and say to ourselves, as he points out, “I don’t know and I don’t need to know”? Instant stress relief, even inspiration, and a lot of both mental and physical energy released due to the lessening of stress which is such a “thief” of energy we’d be much better off using on whatever we are working on in our lives! Thank you, Kristen, sharing is caring, and you obviously do!

    • Kristen says:

WOW – thank YOU – your words mean so much to me and I am looking forward to hearing more from you in the future!

      You are extraordinary!

  8. My Inbox gets so full, both here at home and at the office, I never seem to have time to read important posts like this one. I don’t know why I worry about my finances, but when I do they prove I am right: They are not secure. I don’t know why I don’t work as smart as I “should,” but I don’t, and the harder and longer I work, the less reward it brings. Today, a deal I had been counting on to close Friday is further delayed, and there is no certainty I shall have money to run my business. I got so scared, I wanted to (figuratively) put a gun to my head to stop the negative thought patterns. Then, I remembered the flip switch and started to laugh. I worked until 10 o’clock to clear the junk from my desk and computer (there were 550 e-mails there, and I filed, dealt with or deleted so many, I got to 163). Then, I did what had been frightening me: Inputting the expenses that had piled up while I was busy being busy. Tomorrow (or is it this morning?), I leave for Los Angeles for a nice visit with my family and friends. I don’t know why I couldn’t sleep, but I’m listening to Jim Oliver’s music and trying that way to calm my mind chatter.

Thanks for the daily reminders, even if I don’t get to them every day.
