The Secret to Letting Go of Every Fear

Are you afraid of some condition in your life?

Here’s a life-transforming secret: that seemingly scary condition, whatever it may be, is not the problem. It is your reaction that is fearful. This is why if you will become conscious of your condition instead of afraid of it, you will change forever your relationship with fear.

It is only within this special kind of inner-relationship that there is real safety, because now you are interacting with fear in an entirely new way. You are no longer letting it dictate to you how to act or what to do. Instead, you are aware of the fear. You are learning to quietly observe and study it. And, each day, as you discover something new about the strange and shaky nature of your own fearful reactions, they begin to lose their power over you.

Why? Because you are at last seeing them for what they have always been: unintelligent mechanical forces. You are slowly becoming stronger than they are because by seeing them as they are — not as they would have you see them — you have helped yourself to climb above and outside of their influence. This self-insight is the difference between trembling through your life and being in command of it.

To be consciously afraid means that you know you are frightened, but at the same time you know that these very fears, as real as they may seem, are not you. And no wrong reaction can keep you captive once you begin to see it for what it is.

Fear is, and has always been, nothing but a self-limiting reaction that we cling to in the darkness of our present life-level, having mistaken it for a shield of self-protection. But, just as the faintest of early morning sunlight can dispel the night-long darkness, so does the smallest of insights into a persistent fear lead to letting it go.

You can prove this powerful principle to yourself anytime you want. Just dare to proceed even while being afraid. But remember, your new aim isn’t to be courageous or to try and act strong in the face of fear. No. We’ve seen that this won’t work. You simply want to be more curious about your frightened thoughts and feelings than you want to believe in them.

If you will follow this simple but higher instruction, not only will you start to see these habitual reactions that have been keeping you scared and running, you’ll actually start seeing through them. This is where the real miracle occurs.

Each new insight into the actual nature of these negative reactions removes some of their power over you. And their loss is your gain. You are stronger now and you know it. You also know this new strength will never fail you because it isn’t just the temporary appearance of a bold opposite. This new strength of yours is the absence of an old weakness.

Let’s look at just one of the ways in which this principle of putting self-illumination before psychological self-protection can turn fear into fearlessness.

Do you know someone who you would rather run from than run into? Most of us do! Nevertheless, starting right now, resolve never again to avoid any person that scares you.

In fact, go ahead and walk right up to that critical man or aggressive woman and say or do exactly what you want instead of letting the fear tell you to do what it wants. Have no ideas at all about the way things should or shouldn’t go. You are there to watch and learn about yourself, not to win an ego victory. Let that person see you shake if that is what starts to happen. What do you care? Besides, it is only temporary. That unpleasant person before you can’t know it, but you are shaking yourself awake.

For the first time, you are letting your reactions roll by instead of letting them carry you away. As you stand there, momentarily apart from your usual self and working hard to remain as inwardly watchful as you know how, you can see that this flood of previously unconscious reactions has its own life story; a shaky sort of story that up until now you had embraced as your own. But now you are beginning to see the whole story. The fears do not belong to you. Here is the explanation:

You have never been afraid of another person. The only thing you have ever been frightened by is your own thoughts about that person. Yes, you did feel fear, but it wasn’t yours and it wasn’t towards someone stronger than you. The fear you felt was in what you thought he or she was thinking about you.

Amazing isn’t it? You have been afraid of your own thoughts! And seeing this ends this. Now you can let this thought-self go, because no one holds on to terror.

Quick Tip Look Who’s Talking…
When we feel fear, one of the first impulses is to fix it, change it or troubleshoot – in other words we try to control the fear away.In fact, control is the trap of fear, as long as we try to control it away, fear has control. Freedom from fear comes, not with control, but with letting go.

The next time you feel fear and start to go into “fix it mode” – stop yourself – send love to the fear and repeat 11 times – “I am loved, I am safe, I am protected.”

You ARE loved and safe and protected – let the feeling of this grow within you.

    My greatest fear is not being alone as I am comfortable with being alone, but the lack of money, ever since I left home and school at 16 I have worked hard for a living, I left home and school at 16 to start a 15 year career with horses, so I have moved around quite a bit, want I really want most in my life now is to have my own home and settle and be comfortable, I do meditate and visualize what I want in my life but sometimes I have to admit it does get tough to stay positive, I have to be honest, my life has been a struggle but I have been fortunate to always have worked, but then I have always worked hard, I would really love to be able to look into the future and see that all will be ok. I do love reading about the LOA and such like as it gives me hope and faith.

      I really appreciate you sharing this and I understand your money fears (I left home when I was 16 too and that can definitely create a scarcity story) You CAN change your story from fear to abundance, and it starts with realizing the moment is NOW – create those abundant feelings you desire NOW and that is what keeps that going into every other moment of NOW (remember, there is no future, only now) 🙂

      If you are feeling negative about money – don’t try to convince yourself otherwise – instead, simply focus on shifting your energetic state – think of a time you laughed out loud – really replay it and you will shift your energy.

    Thank you. Most off all, most of my life I face what I fear- making use of the words it can’t go worse than ‘taking my head off’. It is fear that put us in survival mode. Only a coward will run from an emotion- now me, most of the time I make use of the emotion.

    You are so right for a long time every time something went wrong in my life I would turn inward and my way of dealing with it rather than face it was to run. I am learning this time to face this thing so that i can move forward. This year for me has been turning from running to running towards the thing that bothers me. I can definitely say I am doing so much better since taking this challenge on. I want to thank you so much for sharing these insights. i also think a lot of people are getting this year.

    Kristen, this is where I AM in my life right now. I have gone through a very traumatic period in my life- losing everything and my respect for a lot of family members who came at me like hawks. I had lost my voice and fear took a hold of me because of the maliciousness of family members whom I have not provoked. I must tell you though in all of this very, very negative circumstances, I am going to let it work for my good. I now know some people who will never be on my path. It was good in a sense that all this has happened to me because it forces me to take a step back and see all those individuals whom I have been very generous to who sseing them for the opportunist that they truly are as now lighten my burden going forward . As I rebuild my life by meditation and looking at the harsh truth I do not want anything to be hidden-this in turn is subduing all my fears as I call all things for what they truly are.. Your precious words here is a testament of how to dissipate fear is a most wonderful reminder and a very present help not only to me but I am sure to most people who have been crippled byfear in some area of their life and has masked it with some coping mechanism.     i have been a very fearful person for a long time, i see someone and i get very suspicious of that person and i go into a boost of year, and what u are saying is very true that fear is not really based on you being in a dangerous situation but its the fearful thought you have of what the person thinks of you were many times that very false. i am going to try what you just said. thank you

    Hey Kristen great article! Happy Blessed Easter! Hey it’s really cool that our names are both pronounced the same but spelled differently but my mom wanted to put “Christ” in my name & I am blessed. I wanted to know about something I’m still not understanding about manifesting all the things we want in reality? I was told that anything that we want to come into our life that we must let go, but I still don’t understand by what they mean by letting go? For example if I said I wanted to manifest $100 and I said I wanted it to show up at a certain and i keep visualizing it constantly and feel a certain way about it but in order for it to happen I have to let it go? When they say to “let it go” what does all that really mean? Does it mean to let go by stop visualizing and thinking about it or do we keep visualizing it? Or does it mean to let go the feeling of it not showing up of fearing that it won’t happen and that I had the feeling of that I won’t have $100? Or is it something else? I have always had trouble manifesting things that I want to come/happen in my life but I just never knew how to go about it because I get stuck at the part of letting go and mainly because do not understand what that means? I feel that if I had understood what letting go means then I would have already manifested all of the things that I wanted already into my physical reality! Please help me and inform me as to what this all means because I still don’t understand how any of this works? Thank you and God Bless! 🙂

    I am in a mediocre job with a poor salary. I feel hardship to fulfil my needs. There is no job guarantee also. I am in a state of insecurity how to survive with a grown up daughter who still wants to study. But after going through your newsletter, I am having courage and feeling not to worry about future as I am feeling if I take care of present, future will definitely take care of me.

    Thank you Kristen for the reply and for answering back. I thought when they say letting go of your desire meant to let go when it will happen? So what if I said I wanted to manifest a bouquet of 1 dozen of pink roses from a flower shop and for it to be delivered to my house. I keep visualizing and seeing the florist delivering the roses to my house and I keep visualizing it and feeling very great about it. Pretty much what I am asking you of the example I gave if it will/can that happen just by me visualing and seeing it happen and feeling happy, positive and great about it and for it to happen exactly how I picture it and feel about just by doing that?

      Hi Christin! Yes, it is letting go of HOW and WHEN – now there is something else that will make this even more powerful…

      Discover WHY you desire something to manifest (like your bouquet of pink roses) WHY, what FEELING do you believe manifesting that specific thing will bring you? When you can discover that underlying FEELING – you have discovered what it is you REALLY want to manifest. Then you can let go of the specifics and simply visualize manifesting that feeling. Let go of HOW, WHEN and exactly what it will look like and you open yourself up to receive what you are truly desiring faster (and in better ways and details than you could have imagined for yourself).
