This is for the birds…

This post is for the birds…

And I don’t mean that how it sounds…

I guess a better way to put it is that this post is inspired by the birds — stick with me here…

This morning I got back from my run and as I was cooling down, I looked up and noticed all the birds —

Different kinds of birds, flying around, landing on telephone wires, landing for a second on a tree…

And that’s when I had the thought that inspired this post — I thought, “Wow, there are so many different kinds of birds, some are big, some are really small, some are colorful, some are plain, some chirp melodically and some caw and squawk – but they were all built to fly and there is enough sky for all of them.”

So, here’s my point —

We are like birds — we are all different — but we were all built to fly — and whether it feels like it or not, there is enough sky for all of us…

BUT, when you get caught up comparing yourself with others, or trying to be a different person than you are, or just convince yourself that there isn’t enough room for us all to succeed and step into our own, unique, greatness — then you clip your wings and never get off the ground…

Today I want you to try something —

  • Try celebrating who you are every time you are tempted to compare yourself with someone else
  • Try looking for success clues from someone who is like you when you feel frustrated because you don’t know how to move to the next level in your life
  • Try assuming there is enough of everything for you to live the life you desire when you are tempted to believe there isn’t enough (money, time, opportunity etc.)

Try it — remember, I’m just asking you to try it today, you don’t have to commit to anything more (after all, today is all there is anyway)…

I can’t wait to hear your comments on this!

Go Big!

Kristen

Thanks Kristen! I’ve been comparing myself to other people a lot lately because I’m not where I feel I should be right now. I have to realize that it’s not about where others are, but where I can bring myself if I put in the hard work and discipline!

Kristen – great post. Spot on. Time to fly with the other birds … but not really worry about how big they are or how small we might feel we are!

You are right, but I have found through my 64 years of living, is that we are our own worst critics. It is the nature of the beast. Every now and then I reflect back on my life and realize all of my successes, and there have been many.I am always striving to improve and learn as a man.Thank you for this oppertunity to express my self. My garden is filled with birds of many sizes and kinds. This morning while drinking my coffee and watching them take a bath, I saw one dive on my cat! Puss gave a startled jump and ran away! I could ‘hear’ her thinking ‘Hey! That’s not the way it’s meant to happen! And I thought, not everything happens as we expect, the only constant in life is change; what appears to be the normallity of life, isn’t at all. So I can change my life! Beverley

My parents also reminded us constantly that we needed to say “please” and “thank you” whenever we got something or someone did something for us. When I first met my husband, he told me a story about how he had toiled all day in his then girlfriend’s parents yard. They did not so much as offer him a drink of water, and when lunchtime rolled around he bought himself a sandwich and sat eating it on the stoop. They came out and asked why he hadn’t bought them lunch too. That incident had happened 6 years before the time he first told me about it, so I knew that he needed some acknowledgement and gratitude because of the effort he put into everything he did. I remember that every day, and soon we will be celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary.

I personally haven’t tried to be like anyone else, I am who I am! I spent 20+ years working in Corrections and not once tried to be like anyone else! I truely only what to be the best I can for myself! If I can’t be at my best, how will be able to help others! My true goal is to get myself right and then show or help others to do the same. That’s all!

  15. Thanks Kristen for the motivator. Knowingly & accidentally we fall in useless mess. Patience to filter and then talk/reply is the best.
