When will you finally be ready?

I had an interesting conversation the other day…

I was talking with my best friend about a mutual friend of ours that is finally branching out with his own consulting business after years of running a consulting business for someone else…

As we were talking about this, my best friend said, “Do you think he’s ready?”

I thought about it for a second and this is what I said…

“I don’t think he’ll be ready until he’s doing it…”

We both laughed because it’s so true…

Think about it…

When are you ready? And I mean REALLY ready?

I’ll tell you when…

When you are doing it…

Don’t get me wrong…

You can (and must) prepare…

You can practice and get all of your ducks in a row (whatever that means)…

But you will finally be ready in the exact moment that you are doing it!

Here’s an example…

An athlete can train, hit practice hard and work all of their drills…

But when are they ready for the game?

During the game!

Here’s the deal…

So many people get stuck in the ‘Getting Ready’ phase and they never move onto the ready phase…

Be honest with me here…

What is it you are ‘getting ready for’ and have been ‘getting ready for’ for longer than a month?

Here are most of the things I hear that people are getting ready to be ready for…

  • Losing weight
  • Getting into shape
  • Starting their own business
  • Finding their passion
  • Starting to design the life of their dreams
  • Getting in the game
  • Connecting with their kids
  • Connecting with their spouse

and the list goes on and on and on…

So what is it for you?

It’s time to get in the game and START going big…

Enough getting ready!

Can’t wait for your comments on this one!

What is that strange thing the Olympic Athletes were doing?

The Olympics are over…

But the lessons we can learn from them are not!

If you watched any of the downhill skiing or ski jumping or snow boarding, you probably saw a few of the athletes doing some pretty strange things…

Some of them looked like they were swimming or doing some strange slow motion dance…

No matter what it was, 1 thing is for certain…

It looked weird!

What were they doing?

They were visualizing the course or jump ahead of them…

Really powerful stuff when you consider that many of the athletes they showed doing this strange, visualization dance won medals.

We can use that same power in our lives…

But so often we think we will look stupid or that it will take too much time…

Hmm…

Sure seems like it was worth the time and looking a little odd on camera in front of millions of people to Lidsey Vonn before she won the gold…

What do you think?

You can do this with anything…

  • A job interview
  • Giving a speech or presentation
  • Having a specific meeting or phone call
  • Putting in a great workout
  • Having a highly productive day
  • Starting the day in a great mood

Anything…

Let me give you an example from my life…

I was in the Broadway Tour Company of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and in rehearsals there were some notes in the part I had to play that were almost impossible for me to hit.

They weren’t physically impossible, but I would know they were coming and try to force them and then — well — I would blow it…

When I rehearsed this number, I had small breakthroughs throughout, but nothing significant enough to make me think that when there was an audience I was going to do it right…

This is what happened:

Every night before I fell asleep I would run through the whole show in my head.  I would really “be there” in the performance…

I would feel how it felt to hit those notes effortlessly –

I’m not kidding, I did this every night! I would perform a 90 minute show in my head – I would close my eyes and lie in my bed in the dark and live it…

Now this is how things go when it comes to rehearsal…

You rehearse numbers and then you spend a whole lot of time learning new numbers, so you don’t go back to the first numbers until the run through…

Which means I had several weeks of NOT rehearsing the trouble notes.

It came time for the big run through and we were closing in on having an audience and the creative team and producers were there –

Let’s just say…it was show time…

I got to the parts of the songs that gave me trouble and BAM…the notes were there…EXACTLY how I’d rehearsed it in my head every night!

  • Was that worth my time?
  • Was it worth my energy?
  • Was it worth people looking at me strangely when I told them what I had done?

You tell me…

Leave me a comment and let me know how you can start to use this tool IMMEDIATELY to benefit your life!

Who are you listening to?

When it comes to your life and your goals and desires…

Let me ask you 1 question…

Who are you listening to?

This is one of the biggest challenges today…

  • There are a whole bunch of people in your life who are more than ready and willing to give you advice on what you can and especially what you CAN’T or SHOULDN’T do…
  • There are countless people standing by, ready to protect you or steer you toward what is smart and sensible and realistic…

So often these people listen to your ideas and tell you they won’t work, or they aren’t smart…

And when they do, it’s easy to get discouraged and abandon your ideas…

It’s easy to get deflated and look for a more sensible or realistic approach that doesn’t get you excited, but at least ypu’ve heard it makes sense…

Here’s my big question for you…

When it comes to the people who you are listening to…

Do they have what you want?

I’m all for advice and mentors and perspective…

BUT

Please, please, please…

Get that advice from people who are where you want to go…

  • If you want advice on how to start making $10, 000 a month through passive income, should you listen to someone who has only ever made $3500/month and traded time for every single dollar of it?
  • If you want your relationship to be healthy, communicative and passionate, are you going to listen to your friend who is in a loveless marriage?
  • If you want to get into the best shape of your life, are you going to go to someone who has never exercised a day in their life for advice on how to do it?

When I ask my coaching clients these questions they always see how ridiculous it is to get advice from someone who doesn’t have what you want…

AND YET…

Most have them have been doing just that…

Most people have a group of advisers that they love and who love them, but when it comes to deciding if your ideas and dreams can happen…

When it comes to discovering the path to design the life you desire…

Make sure you are listening to people who know from experience what it takes to get there!

Listen…

Your friends and family are so important to love you and add to your life…

And if you your friends and family do have the things that you desire, then PLEASE listen to them!

But often your advisers serve a different purpose…

Start finding people who have what you want (at least the next level from where you are)…

Your life will start to change instantly when you do!

As always, leave a comment here…I love hearing from you and what you have to say might be helpful to someone else!

What can the Olympics teach you?

Okay I’ll admit it, I have Olympic fever!

Why?

Well there are so many reasons…

1. I love sports

2. I love watching people dig deep

3. I love hearing how people ris above injusries and circumstances that seem insurmountable

4. I love what I can learn about success and mindset and strategies of success

I love all of these things…

But there is something else, and that is what I’m going to focus on today…

5. I love seeing how differently certain athletes handle defeat

Lindsey Jacobellis is the perfect example…

In the last Olympics she was certain to win a Gold in the Snowboard Cross Event…

I mean she had it tied up and was so far ahead of the pack that all she had to do was stay up on her board and she would have the gold…

That’s when she made her mistake…

She went into the air, and caught in the moment she went to do a little extra to celebrate…

AND FELL…

She still got silver, but this was a situation where the Gold was hers to lose and that is exactly what she did…

  • You’ll get 8 million people sounding off about how it was the mistake of youth or showboating…
  • You’ll get an earful from just about anyone about how stupid she was to do this…
  • You could throw a rock in the middle of the desert and chances are you would still hit someone who would be more than willing to judge her for what heppened…

To be honest, I don’t care about that…

We all make mistakes, it’s a fact of life…

What I’m interested in is what we do after the mistake…

How we handle ourselves…

What we tell ourselves this mistake means about us and our future…

And this is where I am so impressed with Jacobellis…

She had to endure some pretty tough interviews — each time having to answer the question of ‘What Happened?’ –

Of course she would explain — of course she wished it hadn’t gone the way it did — I’m sure she learned a serious lesson –

But she also seemed to let it roll off of her…

The best thing I heard from her was when she said that she didn’t know how to explain what happened other than to say that she fell down.

I love that!

That’s the best success lesson you can find…

You’re going to make mistakes and you are going to do things when you should have known better…

Do you have to learn from these mistakes?

YES

But, do these mistakes mean that you are stupid, have ruined everything and now you’ll never succeed?

NO NO NO!

Learn from her…

Sometimes the most honest answer to “What happened there?” is

“I fell down”…

Leave me your comments about how you can learn from this…

Apolo Anton Ono asks himself this every day…

Olympic fever time!

I was just watching a human interest story on Apolo Anton Ono…

What a cool guy, he’s driven ad charismatic and easy going and absolutely in love with what he does…

In the interview he said this –

“Before every day you go to sleep. Ask yourself one thing. Did you do every single thing you could today to make sure you did your best?  It’s hard to answer yes, every single day.”

I thought to myself — YES, that’s it!

He has the key…

Every day, go into that day with the intention to be the best version of yourself –

When you ask yourself at night if you did everything possible to be the best version of yourself, you won’t always come up with a ‘Yes’…

But, I guarantee you, if you approach your life like this — each and every day — no matter what happened the day before –

The quality of your life will immediately lift significantly!

Leave me a comment, let me know if you are ready to approach every day like this regardless of what the day before brought or didn’t bring…

You are extraordinary!
