What can the Olympics teach you?

Okay I’ll admit it, I have Olympic fever!

Why?

Well there are so many reasons…

1. I love sports

2. I love watching people dig deep

3. I love hearing how people ris above injusries and circumstances that seem insurmountable

4. I love what I can learn about success and mindset and strategies of success

I love all of these things…

But there is something else, and that is what I’m going to focus on today…

5. I love seeing how differently certain athletes handle defeat

Lindsey Jacobellis is the perfect example…

In the last Olympics she was certain to win a Gold in the Snowboard Cross Event…

I mean she had it tied up and was so far ahead of the pack that all she had to do was stay up on her board and she would have the gold…

That’s when she made her mistake…

She went into the air, and caught in the moment she went to do a little extra to celebrate…

AND FELL…

She still got silver, but this was a situation where the Gold was hers to lose and that is exactly what she did…

  • You’ll get 8 million people sounding off about how it was the mistake of youth or showboating…
  • You’ll get an earful from just about anyone about how stupid she was to do this…
  • You could throw a rock in the middle of the desert and chances are you would still hit someone who would be more than willing to judge her for what heppened…

To be honest, I don’t care about that…

We all make mistakes, it’s a fact of life…

What I’m interested in is what we do after the mistake…

How we handle ourselves…

What we tell ourselves this mistake means about us and our future…

And this is where I am so impressed with Jacobellis…

She had to endure some pretty tough interviews — each time having to answer the question of ‘What Happened?’ –

Of course she would explain — of course she wished it hadn’t gone the way it did — I’m sure she learned a serious lesson –

But she also seemed to let it roll off of her…

The best thing I heard from her was when she said that she didn’t know how to explain what happened other than to say that she fell down.

I love that!

That’s the best success lesson you can find…

You’re going to make mistakes and you are going to do things when you should have known better…

Do you have to learn from these mistakes?

YES

But, do these mistakes mean that you are stupid, have ruined everything and now you’ll never succeed?

NO NO NO!

Learn from her…

Sometimes the most honest answer to “What happened there?” is

“I fell down”…

Leave me your comments about how you can learn from this…

You could give up or you could get _______ …

I know you have things that you want to have happen in your life…

You are focusing on them, visualizing, getting specific and taking inspired action –

You’re doing everything we’ve talked about here…

BUT..

Often you still find yourself waiting for someone else or sidetracked by unforeseeable circumstances or pressed for someone else’s deadline…

So what now?

I constantly talk about how we are 100% responsible for our lives and the story that plays out in our lives and yet…

How can that be true when you are subjected to other people and situations and expectations?

I’ll tell you how…

  • You can ALWAYS be creative…
  • You can ALWAYS take another path…
  • You ALWAYS have a choice…

This is one of those posts that will make some people really angry — and if you aren’t ready to accept this as true, I’m sorry…but I’m not going to change my tune…

Here’s the deal –

When you are waiting or feel like whatever you want to happen relies on someone else, you feel a loss of power…

When you look at the situation and acknowledge that the one path you are looking at is delayed and then ask yourself what different action you can take to find a different path or opportunity etc. THEN you activate your power — you activate your creative juices — you activate Inspired Action…

So here’s my question for you today…

And keep in mind this applies to EVERY AREA of your life…

  • Money
  • Business
  • Relationships
  • Fun
  • Health

EVERYTHING…

Ask yourself this…

What is something in your life that is ‘held up’ or seems to be reliant on someone else and how can you get creative and look for another possiible path to bring you the same (or better result)?

Leave me a comment with your answer…

Also, let me know if you are ready to be creative and stop waiting for other people to make things happen in your life…

A kick in the pants…

I got an email today that was a kick in the pants I deserved!

Here’s the deal…

We all get behind sometimes…

Life happens to all of us and takes us a bit off track…

We all put our energy on the most pressing thing and temporarily remove it from other things…

And if we don’t explain why wh have shifted our focus and energy then people will understandably take it personally and feel like they can’t count on you…

So what was the kick in my pants?

Well…

As you know I had that bad car accident and the healing and logistics that come with resolving something like that got my primary focus.

I still posted to my blog and I still developed content etc. for my new Go Big Now! VIP Program…

BUT WHAT I DIDN’T DO was stay on top of responding to emails and blog posts.

I know it’s understandable considering the circumstances…BUT I should have explained.

I should have sent out an email letting everyone know that I wasn’t ignoring them and I would catch up and respond to them soon.

I should have…

But I didn’t…

And I am sorry!

The kick in the pants came as an email from a loyal subscriber who said that he probably would have signed up for my Go Big Now! VIP program but because he hadn’t received a response to his emails he didn’t know he could trust me.

Ouch…

But true…

So, what can you learn from my kick in the pants?

There will be times when you have to shift your energy, that is a part of life and you shouldn’t have to change that…

But…

Think of the people it will directly effect and let them know and you will be amazed at how much that adds to your relationships — whether it’s business, personal or both!

Leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts on this…

Go Big!
