Who are you ready to be?

Notice I didn’t ask “What are you ready to have?”

So many people give 100% of their focus to what they are going to achieve or have — things like…

• I’m going to get out of debt
• I’m going to have a successful business
• I’m going to lose 50 pounds
• I’m going to have a wonderful, supportive, romantic relationship

etc. etc. etc.

Now, don’t get me wrong — those are great things…

BUT I want you to really think about my first question — so I’ll ask it again…

• Who are you ready to be?
• What kind of person are you ready to be?
• How are you ready to act?
• How are you ready to push yourself?
• How are you ready to treat other people?
• How are you ready to treat yourself?
• How are you ready to demand to be treated?
• How are you ready to love?
• How are you ready to live?
• How are you ready to trust?

etc. etc. etc.

Get the idea?

I’ll tell you this…

Who you are ready to be — has more to do with what you desire to have than you may realize –

And I don’t mean that how it sounds…

I guess a better way to put it is that this post is inspired by the birds — stick with me here…

This morning I got back from my run and as I was cooling down, I looked up and noticed all the birds –

Different kinds of birds, flying around, landing on telephone wires, landing for a second on a tree…

And that’s when I had the thought that inspired this post — I thought, “Wow, there are so many different kinds of birds, some are big, some are really small, some are colorful, some are plain, some chirp melodically and some caw and squawk – but they were all built to fly and there is enough sky for all of them.”

So, here’s my point –

We are like birds — we are all different — but we were all built to fly — and whether it feels like it or not, there is enough sky for all of us…

BUT, when you get caught up comparing yourself with others, or trying to be a different person than you are, or just convince yourself that there isn’t enough room for us all to succeed and step into our own, unique, greatness — then you clip your wings and never get off the ground…

Today I want you to try something —

• Try celebrating who you are every time you are tempted to compare yourself with someone else
• Try looking for success clues from someone who is like you when you feel frustrated because you don’t know how to move to the next level in your life
• Try assuming there is enough of everything for you to live the life you desire when you are tempted to believe there isn’t enough (money, time, opportunity etc.)

Try it — remember, I’m just asking you to try it today, you don’t have to commit to anything more (after all, today is all there is anyway)…

Let me ask you 1 question…

Who are you listening to?

This is one of the biggest challenges today…

• There are a whole bunch of people in your life who are more than ready and willing to give you advice on what you can and especially what you CAN’T or SHOULDN’T do…
• There are countless people standing by, ready to protect you or steer you toward what is smart and sensible and realistic…

So often these people listen to your ideas and tell you they won’t work, or they aren’t smart…

And when they do, it’s easy to get discouraged and abandon your ideas…

It’s easy to get deflated and look for a more sensible or realistic approach that doesn’t get you excited, but at least ypu’ve heard it makes sense…

Here’s my big question for you…

When it comes to the people who you are listening to…

Do they have what you want?

I’m all for advice and mentors and perspective…

BUT

Please, please, please…

Get that advice from people who are where you want to go…

• If you want advice on how to start making $10, 000 a month through passive income, should you listen to someone who has only ever made $3500/month and traded time for every single dollar of it?
• If you want your relationship to be healthy, communicative and passionate, are you going to listen to your friend who is in a loveless marriage?
• If you want to get into the best shape of your life, are you going to go to someone who has never exercised a day in their life for advice on how to do it?

When I ask my coaching clients these questions they always see how ridiculous it is to get advice from someone who doesn’t have what you want…

AND YET…

Most have them have been doing just that…

Most people have a group of advisers that they love and who love them, but when it comes to deciding if your ideas and dreams can happen…

When it comes to discovering the path to design the life you desire…

Make sure you are listening to people who know from experience what it takes to get there!

Listen…

Your friends and family are so important to love you and add to your life…

And if you your friends and family do have the things that you desire, then PLEASE listen to them!

But often your advisers serve a different purpose…

Start finding people who have what you want (at least the next level from where you are)…

Your life will start to change instantly when you do!

For some of you it’s a new business for others it’s a  form of creative expression or way of impacting the world…

It doesn’t matter what it is, what matters is that you get it out there and I know that for most of you there is probably fear that goes along with that.  You don’t want to be pushy or salesy or annoy the people you know and love…

But let me tell you something important about this…

And I’ll actually use this blog to illustrate my point…

Here’s the truth…

The more I blog, the more responsive people are…the more people ask for my help, hire me as a coach, bring me on to speak etc.

What does this mean to me about life and more specifically living the life we want to design, achieving our aspirations, being the people we desire to be?

I’ll tell you (you knew I would)!

It means that when we want to get something out there or make something known or get people on board with something we have to take the other people into account.

Now this is where I flip what we normally do on it’s ear!

How we normally ‘Take other people into account’ is by ASSUMING we will annoy them or bother them…we think they will grow weary of us…so we mention something in passing and then let it go…assuming that if it is important to them or resonates with them they will pick up the ball and run with it, gleefully letting us know how what we have is exactly what they’ve been waiting for.

Let’s be honest,  if we REALLY ‘Take other people into account’ we will realize that there are so many distractions and so much stimuli flying around all at all times, that if we just mention something in passing, chances are great that our thing or message or whatever will automatically shift to the back of their brains, not because they are being mean or don’t care, but just because that is how it is.

BEFORE I GO ON LET ME CLARIFY…You should also NEVER ASSUME that they are all ears and sitting around all day every day just waiting for your message or thing or whatever…I’m NOT saying be annoying…I’m not saying harass people…in fact you should always give people the chance to respectfully decline…

Here’s the thing…you only want to be talking to people who want to hear what you have to say AND I guarantee you that there are a lot more people that actually do want to hear what you have to say than you think.

To boil it down, I’m saying is this…

‘If you don’t toot your own horn, someone else will pick it up and hit you over the head with it.’

• Toot it with respect for the people listening…
• Toot it with confidence but not OVER confidence or false bravado…
• Toot it and know that NOT everyone will like the sound of your particular horn…

Keep in mind…tooting your own horn doesn’t mean talking about yourself or bragging…it means putting what you want out there and letting it be known…you never know who has the key to a door for you!

And remember…listen for when you might have the key to a door for someone else…because that’s a powerful thing!

I get at least 10 emails a day from people like you who are trying to connect to their Ultimate Vision or even the next step…

They are going through the exercises in my report, they are doing all the right things…

BUT

They can’t seem to fully visualize or feel what they desire and experience how they would feel if it were true…

Does that sound familiar?

Here’s the deal…

When any of my coaching clients are struggling with this very issue, the first thing we do is work on getting emotional!

If you aren’t emotional and excited about your Ultimate Vision chances are good you are staying in your rational mind when you focus on it…

So how do you get out of your conscious, thinking, rationalizing mind and get emotional and excited about your vision?

There are a bunch of exercises I run through with my clients which are too involved to do here; let me give you a few tips:

1. Suspend Your Disbelief: As an actress I have to do this all time, can you imagine if I went to shoot a scene in a movie but the whole time I was so grounded in my rational mind that knew I wasn’t really a cop or a lawyer or whatever?  How do you think that would go?  I need you to do the same thing…every day for just 5-15 minutes, suspend your disbelief and focus on your ultimate vision.
2. Pretend: When you were a kid, did you ever play ‘Let’s pretend’? What was the result? You jumped in 100% and played it out — I guarantee you committed to ‘pretending’ and I also guarantee you didn’t sit there judging yourself thinking you were ridiculous and this isn’t possible.  PRETEND…jump into it, play the movie in your mind of you living your ultimate vision –what does it feel like, what are the thoughts you think, what actions do you take?
3. Use Music: Plain and simple Music puts us in an emotional state.  We use music to put us in specific emotional states all the time.  AND when a certain song reminds you of a specific time or event in your life you are able to instantly hop into that state.  USE MUSIC to get into the emotional state you need to be in in order to suspend your disbelief and pretend.

You don’t need to spend hours on this…just 5-15 minutes a day!

Get in there and get emotional…

This is YOUR life we’re talking about!!

You know what I’m talking about…

The dreaded ‘To Do List’!

If you are, you certainly aren’t alone!

Here’s what I want you to do right now…

Grab your list

Do these 2 steps:

1. For everything on the list ask yourself this, “Will doing this move me forward, sideways or backwards?”
   (I know it seems odd that there would be a backwards, but let me put it this way, if it’s on your list to help you procrastinate and avoid doing something that would REALLY move you forward than it qualifies.)
2. Keep, Leverage & Get Rid Of: This is how you handle the items now that they are labeled Forward, Sideways, Backwards

Forward: Keep
Sideways: Ask yourself if this really needs to be done, if the answer is ‘Yes’ then is there someone else you can leverage it to?
Backwards: GET RID OF IT!

Seriously…if you really want to get yourself moving toward the things you desire you HAVE to get rid of the things that are on your ‘To Do’ list that aren’t moving you closer to what you want.

I could literally right 20 more posts just on how to maximize the things you are spending your time doing and getting out from under the feeling of being overwhelmed, but this is a GREAT start.

Do it now!

I guarantee you there are at least 3 things you can get rid of if you are completely honest with yourself…

If you don’t know what ‘Shark Tank’ is, it’s a new show that has 5 big entrepreneurs who built their respective businesses from nothing to multiple millions (and sometimes billions) of dollars and are now looking to invest in other businesses.

During the hour long show, smaller entrepreneurs present their business or business idea to the ‘Sharks’ in hopes that they bid on their business and give them money to use as capital in exchange for a percentage of the business.

Whether you like the show and the concept or not, there are SO many things to learn from watching these entrepreneurs present their ideas and negotiate…

Watch the show just once and you will have a perfect display of how most people get in their own way…

Here are the top 3 ways I watched people with viable businesses get in their own way and kiss opportunity goodbye…

1. They aren’t clear on their desired outcome:

Person after person walks in and you can tell that they aren’t clear on what they really want from the situation.  They go in with an offer and when the Sharks make a counter offer they have no idea how to handle it BECAUSE they didn’t decide before they walked in the room what was MOST IMPORTANT to them.

TIP: When you walk into any negotiation or start a business or do ANYTHING you MUST know what your MUSTS are. What are your deal breakers?  What do you want this to ultimately look like?

2. They haven’t done their research to see if there is a need:

There were some ideas that seemed great in concept, but when asked to back up that there is a need in the marketplace for this product, 2 out of 4 had no idea and were going off the instinct that people would want their product because it was such a great idea.

TIP: BEFORE you invest money in an idea you have to invest TIME to establish if there is a need or desire for your product.  Who is your primary audience?  What problems do they have? Will your idea solve that problem? Is there a way you can make your idea solve their problem better or faster or cheaper than someone else?

3. They got STUCK in research:

The opposite of NO research is getting STUCK in research. These are the people that are so busy researching and planning and getting it perfect that they never actually take steps to move forward toward making it happen.

TIP: Once you take some time (it shouldn’t take a huge amount of time) to establish a need for what you have to offer, GET IT OUT THERE, take an order, bring on a client do whatever you have to do to start.  The best learning ground is in the marketplace.  I promise you that you will discover how to improve your solution by having it out there and getting feedback.

These are the top 3 things I saw, but there were so many examples of how we get in our own way that I couldn’t possibly write them all.

Once I stopped laughing, it hit me how true that was…

We all get so stressed about everthing under the sun…

• We worry…
• We obsess…
• We doubt…
• We settle…

There’s so much at stake…

What if we fail?

What if we don’t make enough money?

What if people laugh at us?

What if we look stupid?

What if, what if, what if?

Here’s the deal…

It doesn’t matter if what you want is to attract money fast, live your passion, travel the world, fall madly in love or all of the above and more…

It’s true…

Nobody makes it out alive…

Now it’s your choice if that is a depressing thought or a freeing one…

Fill your life with life and it will be worth it!

Make bold choices, be the person you wish you were, believe what you need to believe to be everything that you know in your heart you are.

Know that with stuggle comes triumph and triumph can also come without struggle…

Yup, I said it…it doesn’t always have to be hard!

What makes you happy?

Do more of it…

What makes you feel fulfilled?

Do more of that…

What is your gift or gifts?

Do everything you can to spend most of your time expressing them (incidentally, that’s when money will follow)…

You can be, have and do everything you desire…

And, since nobody makes it out alive, what do you have to lose?
