You can’t do that! WHAT?

A friend and I were just talking and, I don’t even know how we got on the subject, but we started talking about signing our names…

Weird topic –  but stick with me here and you’ll see why I’m all fired up…

My friend said, “When I was little, I was the girl that would sign my name and take up like half the page when I did it…”

Then she continued…

“Until one day when my grandmother saw me and she said, ‘You can’t do that!’”

You can’t do that…

How many times have you heard those exact words?

How many times did you hear them — or something a lot like them — before you were 10 years old?

I guarantee you can’t count how many times!

And here’s the deal…

When people say that to you, for the most part, there really truly are trying to protect you from something (at least in their own minds)…

But let’s get real…

YOU CAN’T DO THAT has to be the worst 4 letter phrase around!

Then my friend said the most amazing thing — and this is the thing I really want you to think about…

She said, “Sometimes I look back and think that I wish I was still that girl…”

Here’s the truth…

You CAN DO THAT (assuming you aren’t hurting anyone please) AND even if you used to do that and stopped when you were told that you couldn’t do that…

You are STILL that person…

THAT is still the essence of you — even if it’s a bit buried, that is still who you are!

How can you reclaim that essence?

What are some of the things you were told you couldn’t do?

RECLAIM THEM!

I can’t wait for your comments on this one!

Who do you have to be?

You know I love the power of questions…

And today I want to introduce you to one of the most powerful questions there is…

I know SO MANY of you are frustrated and feel like you are banging your head against a wall wondering WHEN will you finally have the success you are looking for…

I get emails about it all the time — emails that say things like:

  • “Kristen, I’m doing everything I can think of, but I still don’t have enough money…”
  • “Kristen, I’m doing everything I can think of, but I still haven’t lost the last 20 pounds…”
  • “Kristen, I’m doing everything I can think of, but I still haven’t met my soul mate…”
  • “Kristen, I’m doing everything I can think of, but I still don’t have enough time…”
  • “Kristen, I’m doing everything I can think of, but I still don’t have enough opportunities…”

and the list goes on…

I know you are nodding your head right now in agreement — I know you know what this feels like — I’ve been there too…

UNTIL

I shifted my focus — this is what I did…

I asked myself a different question than I had ever asked myself before –

Do you want to know what that question was?

Of course you do…here it is…

I asked myself this…

“Who do I need to be to have ___________ ?”

Here’s another great follow up question to that one…

“What do I need to believe to have ____________?”

And another powerful question…

“How do I need to act and look at life and handle setbacks to have ___________?”

Here’s the deal…

Whatever you want, I guarantee there is proof in this world that it is possible because I promise you someone else has it –

Study those people that have what you want –

  • Who are they?
  • What do they believe?
  • What do they focus on?
  • How do they handle setbacks?
  • What do they expect?

This works for EVERYTHING –

Whether you want

  • More money
  • To lose weight
  • To be a famous artist
  • To have a successful business
  • To find the love of your life
  • To excel at your current job
  • To discover your passion and purpose

etc. etc. etc.

STOP looking at what you don’t have and instead focus on who you have to be to have what you want…

I promise you that right now you are EXACTLY who you need to be to have what you currently have — and I know you are ready to change that!

Leave me a comment — let me know what your beliefs and more need to be for you to live the life you want…

The “Yeah Buts”…

Does this sound familiar?

You get an idea about something you want to do…

Whether it’s a way to make money or a great adventure you want to take or a dream you want to realize…

And in the first few seconds after you get the idea you get really excited…

It feels so real…

And then the voice in your head starts talking to you…

  • “Yeah but you’re not smart enough”
  • “Yeah but you don’t have enough time”
  • “Yeah but you’re too old”
  • “Yeah but you don’t know enough”

And on and on and on…

And then you start to doubt yourself and discount your idea…

I’ll ask you again…does that sound familiar?

Here’s the deal with the “Yeah Buts”…

I guarantee you that if you told someone else that same idea and they started in with all those “Yeah buts” you would have something to say about it…

So this is what I want you to do from now on…

Any of the ideas you have, write down the “Yeah Buts” that you have about them and then for each of them, give an answer of a solution –

Here’s an example from a coaching session I had recently –

My client has a business and she had an idea for how to get a bunch of sales from a group and one of her biggest “Yeah Buts” is that she is terrible with budgeting and tracking money — this was getting into her head so much that she was starting to get scared of making sales for fear of how she would blow it once money was coming in.

So I took her through the following exercise –

I had her tell me about her great marketing idea as if I was her best and most trusted friend — As her friend I then voiced her “Yeah But” and I told her she had to come up with a solution as she would if she was talking to someone else…this is how the conversation went:

CLIENT: “I’m taking my product to corporations to give to their employees — the best part is that I already have 3 corporations that are very interested and it looks like this will explode my business!”

ME: “Yeah but you’re terrible with money! If your business explodes you’re going to screw everything up and get in trouble with the IRS…”

CLIENT: “I thought of that to, so that’s why I’ve decided I’m going to get an accountant right away!

That was it, 3 lines of a conversation and she had decided on the exact solution to her “Yeah But” and she got the “Yeah But” to shut up.

That’s what I want you to do with all of your “Yeah Buts” –

Write them out in conversation form and look at the solutions you come up with –

And here’s a key –

Sometimes it takes longer to get to the resolve — what I mean is if your first answer to the “Yeah But” opens itself up to another “Yeah But” you need to keep going. Stick with it and you will resolve!

You are extraordinary!

What are you putting off?

Let me ask you 1 question…

And then you should ask yourself this same question every day…

What are you putting off?

We all have something…

So what is it for you?

Be honest with yourself…

What is the thing, that you know would move you forward, that you always seem to push off to the next day?

I know you push it off because other really important things come up…

But what is it?

Because, if you are honest with yourself…

I guarantee you that putting it off is wearing on you…

Putting it off is causing you stress…

Even if you don’t realize it…

Even if you think that actually doing it would be stressful, I promise you that NOT doing it will eventually be even more stressful…

Why?

Because you KNOW deep down that you are putting off success and growth and movement forward…

So I’ll ask you one more time…

What are you putting off?

Leave me a comment and let me know!

What do you do when you fall off a horse?

What do you do when you fall off a horse?

YOU GET BACK ON AGAIN!

So, what do YOU REALLY do when you fall off a horse?

Chances are good if you are like most people I talk to…

When you fall off a horse, you probably think up suitable punishments and/or means to rectify your fall.  Think of all the ways you can try even harder and do even more to make up for the fall and make it appear as if it didn’t happen at all…

Some people decide not to punish themselves, but instead look to place the blame for the fall on someone else…

And other people pretend they never fell at all, shove their heads in the sand and ignore it…

It doesn’t matter how you handle falling…what does matter is that it takes precious time and energy…here’s what I mean…

Falling off the horse isn’t setback…the setback comes in the beating ourselves up, thinking how we’ve let ourselves down, about all this will cost us and what failures we are and how we are weak and not committed and lack follow through and will NEVER have what we want BLAH BLAH BLAH! We spend so much time and energy in all of that muck and mire that by the time we’re done it seems impossible to get back on the horse.

THAT’S the real setback…if you just fell and got back up again without taking the time to beat yourself up, look for someone to blame or pretend it never happened, you’d be surprised how small the impact of inevitable falls are…

Ask anyone who rides, ‘What do you do when you fall off a horse?’

It isn’t just a saying…I GUARANTEE they will answer, ‘Get back on again.’

Then ask them, ‘When?’

I PROMISE they’ll say, ‘RIGHT AWAY!’

You’re going to fall off the horse…there…I’ve freed you…given you permission…told your future.

Leave me a comment to let me know these 2 things…

Before this moment, what did YOU do when you fell off a horse?

After this moment, what will YOU do when you fall off a horse?

Go Big!
